MBX (the Music Box)
Created by Gretchen and Michael Larsen (Larsen ELECTRIC!)
Winter 2025-26
MBX is a permanent light installation for a publicly-funded music venue located in the heart of downtown Lincoln (14th + N).
12 custom aluminum light strips stretch back 50+ feet deep into the alleyway, inviting visitors in and creating a unified visual rhythm that brings together the building form and different artist murals. The lights are changeable via custom WiFi interface.

The project required working across scales—from top-level design vision to minute coding and electronics details, to the integration challenges of embedding WiFi control within a certified electrical system and physically installing permanent lighting in a public venue.
I am excited about site-responsive work that merges technical sophistication with experiential design, and due to its success, this represents phase one of an extended project that will expand the existing design into a larger space.
