MBX (the Music Box)

MBX is a permanent light installation for a publicly-funded  music venue located in the heart of downtown Lincoln (14th + N).

12 custom aluminum light strips stretch back 50+ feet deep into the alleyway, inviting visitors in and creating a unified visual rhythm that brings together the building form and different artist murals.

The lights are changeable via a custom website interface accessible to MBX members over WiFi, with over 20 different color modes, including solid color, multi-color, and gradient states.

The project required working across scales—from top-level design vision to minute coding and electronics details, to the integration challenges of embedding WiFi control within a certified electrical system and physically installing permanent lighting in a public venue.
